Delsu Student, Ify Gabriel Nwainokpor And Friend Killed By Mobs

image

On Sunday 21st July 2013, Ify Gabriel
Nwainokpor and his friend Kasim were
attacked and beaten to death by a mob
at the Ajara area of Badagry on the
ground that their faces looked strange
in the neighborhood, this is according
to the people who posted the video of
their lynching on Youtube.
They claim that the Nigerian Police
(Badagry division) watched as these
men were hacked to death before their
prime. They are crying out to the
world for justice and brought the
barbaric incident to the attention of the
media. Another lynching? This is
unbelievable.
I would not advise it but if you have
the heart to watch, then find the mob
video HERE …and find a
comprehensive report of the sad
incident from Punch after the cut…
Punchng.com reports:

Policemen attached to the
Badagry Police Division, Lagos
State, and some hoodlums have
been accused of killing a 25-year-
old undergraduate of Delta State
University, Ifechukwude
Nwainokpor, and his friend,
identified simply as Kazeem.
An eight-minute video clip of
the gruesome killing, which was
made available to PUNCH Metro,
showed the two victims
handcuffed together. They were
covered in their own blood and
beaten to death with sticks.
Tyres were also put round their
necks.
An irate mob could be seen in the
video, shouting, “die, die, burn
them, burn them.”
At some points in the video, a
policeman was seen interviewing
the boys. He asked who sent
them (victims) to rob the area, an
accusation they denied. One of
the hoodlums, holding a sharp
object attempted to cut off the
private part of one of the victims.
Nwainokpor could be seen
pleading with the hoodlums and
policemen to spare his life,
saying he could identify himself
if given a chance. His plea,
however, fell on deaf ears.
Our correspondent, who visited
the family of Nwainokpor on
Tuesday, learnt that the lynching
took place around 3pm on July
21, 2013 in Ajara area of
Badagry, a community not far
from Nwainokpor’s family home.
His father, Samuel, told PUNCH
Metro that his son was arrested
while passing through a street in
the area but a misunderstanding
later ensued and the hoodlums
pounced on  him and Kazeem.
He added that  Nwainokpor, who
was nicknamed Ify, was a final
year student of Geology and
Mining.
He said, “On that particular day,
I was in Ghana when I received a
telephone call that I should
come immediately. My wife was
in Delta State taking care of her
mother.
“When I arrived two days later,
my relatives and the caretaker of
my house told me that my son
was killed in the Ajara area
along with his friend. I was
devastated.
“I got my son a temporary job
with a Customs licensed agent
since their lecturers were on
strike. He worked everyday
except on Sundays when he
visited his friends. On that day,
he went to see Kazeem and they
were strolling around Ajara.”
Samuel said because there had
been a robbery in Ajara four
days earlier, some of the
residents were on the lookout
for strange faces.
He added that when the youth
saw two unknown young men,
they accosted them and an
argument ensued.
He said the youth called the head
of the vigilante group in the area,
one Asiribo.
He said, “Asiribo came to the
scene with a locally-made pistol
and handcuffs. He handcuffed
my son and his friend before
asking them questions.
“Later, it was decided that the
boys be taken to the Baale,
Agano Oniyon of Agamade
Ajara. But as they were going,
Asiribo, while trying to return
his gun into its pouch,
mistakenly shot himself in the
stomach and died.”
Samuel said Asiribo’s death
infuriated the youth, who
blamed the boys for his  death.
“The mob picked up sticks and
beat them to death. Policemen
were there,” he said.
Holding back tears, the retired
immigration officer added that
the police treated the matter as a
robbery case. Beating his chest,
Samuel said there was no way
his son would have been involved
in  armed robbery.
He said, “I have been living in
Badagry since 1982. I have only
two children and Ifechukwude
is the first. Ironically, he was
born in that same area where he
was killed.
“I have lived in this area without
any trouble and the residents
can tell you that my sons are
good boys.”
Nwainokpor’s boss, Aloysius
Onyenibedi, described him as an
honest and hardworking person.
“I trusted him to the extent that I
used to keep a lot of money with
him. He was good to my
children and was honest,” he
said.
The Nwainokpor family berated
the Divisional Police Officer,
Badagry Police Station, Dankoli
Mohammed, for the manner he
treated the case.
Samuel said when he approached
the DPO, he was told that his
son was killed at midnight for
armed robbery.
He said, “When the policemen
came to take the corpses, guns
were planted on them. Policemen
at the station told the DPO that
they were robbers. Their corpses
were taken along with that
Asiribo to Badagry General
Hospital’s mortuary.
“The following morning, the
DPO released Asiribo’s corpse
for burial without investigation.
My relatives went to the station
and after showing the DPO the
video, the matter was transferred
to the Area K Command.
“At Present, Asiribo’s son has
fled, while the DPO has been
unable to identify the policemen
who were present at the scene
when my son and his friend
were killed.”
PUNCH Metro however learnt
that through the video, some
people had arrested one of the
perpetrators. The suspect had
been transferred to the State
Criminal Investigation
Department,  Panti, Yaba.
The spokesperson for the state
police command, Ngozi Braide,
said, “The incident is quite
pathetic. Even if they were
armed robbers, no one has the
right to take the life of another.
Why then do we have the police
and the judiciary? The Nigerian
police as well as the law
condemn mob action and jungle
justice. The commissioner of
police has set up a high-
powered investigation body to
investigate the matter.”

Governor Rotimi Amaechi Addresses Issues On Reform and Security in London

image

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi was
welcomed with strong support from fellow
Rivers diasporans in the UK during his recent visit.
The governor was delivering a speech titled ‘Reform
and Resource Governance’ at Chatham House in
Central London. Students held placards outside the
venue (pictures below) that praised
Governor Amaechi and showed solidarity despite his
involvement in the disunity and fighting happening
with federal government. The students who are
beneficiaries of the governor’s scholarship scheme
designed to improve manpower in the state, claimed
that they were there to show appreciation for the
good work the governor is doing.
Home to the Royal Institute of International Affairs,
Chatham House regularly invites Nigerian politicians
to the UK to discuss how the African continent is
developing. The session was part of the African
dialogue series. Governor Amaechi outlined the
achievements of his administration since assuming
office in 2007, all of which included infrastructural
projects, the launching of agricultural plantations,
sending hundreds of students on scholarship to UK
and Canada and the funding of education.
500 primary schools have been built in Rivers State
during his tenure and 250 more will be commissioned
starting from October this year.
Governor Amaechi said: “The academic structure we
inherited was very bad as many children could not
stay in school and those who did got a very poor
education. We are building schools and uniforms,
sandals, bags and books are free, while with
healthcare, we have built 60 health centres and 70
more will be commissioned before the end of the
year.” When speaking on the scholarships
programmes he said, “We send 300 every year to the
UK and Canada on scholarship and we have
established palm oil and banana plantations that
employ workers. By the end of our tenure, we would
have laid the foundation for a more robust and less
oil dependent economy in Rivers State.”
Governor Amaechi also addressed his recent political
troubles during his speech. He said the trouble
started when it was suspected that he had higher
political ambitions for 2015. He explained that he has
not declared any position yet and that the impact of
the clampdown was that several; projects in Rivers
State have been put on hold by the federal
government. Governor Amaechi said: “When the
federal government suspects that you have an
ambition, they do everything to bring you down. For
instance, we have two helicopters to monitor security
that they have refused permission to be brought into
the country and they have frustrated plans we have
to open a syringe manufacturing factory in Rivers
State. “Even if they have an issue with me, why
should the whole of Rivers State suffer? We have
numerous projects which we have signed agreements
with the federal government to introduce and
implement but since this crisis began, they have
suspended all of them and the people feeling it are
the ordinary people of Rivers State.”
The governor added that Rivers State is the second
largest economy in Nigeria and that in his own
opinion; good political leadership could improve
things further. However, he said that the political
culture in Nigeria where politicians believe they are
doing the people a favour is a severe impediment as
is the refusal of certain people to leave the political
scene. He stated that certain politicians have
remained on the scene despite no longer having
anything to offer. He then joked that he intends to
leave politics one day as he does not entertain the
idea of sitting round a table arguing with his
children.
Emphasising that the current crisis in Rivers
State threatened security, Governor Amaechi said
that some of the militant groups that have been
disbanded have now been revived and are being used
to cause mayhem and protest against his
government. He said that on the day of the fracas in
the Rivers State House of Assembly, many of these
thugs were led in with the involvement of the police
commissioner. Governor Amaechi said, “I used to be
the speaker of the house and the law is that you are
not even allowed to bring your walking stick in
when entering. How did these people manage to
bring in thugs, weapons, a fake mace and cause
mayhem while the police were not only looking on
but aiding them?”
He also pointed out that the violence started long
before the recording that became viral on Youtube, it
began when five assemblymen smuggled a fake mace
into the Rivers State House of Assembly and used
their hoodlums to create chaos. According to the
governor, after the police commissioner refused to
do anything about it, he went there with his security
detail and it was them who eventually restored order.

Stella Damasus’ Second Husband Drags Her To Court Over Secret Infidelity

Wande Coal part ways with Mavin Records?

image

There have been rumors going around for the past
month that Wande coal and Mavin records might go
their separate ways soon, this was due to the
introduction of Wande Coal’s record label Black
Diamond Ent. All that was squashed aside as it was
said that Black Diamond Ent would still operate
under Mavin Records.
Apparently it’s not just a rumour, close and reliable
sources of mine just gave me the news that Wande
Coal is indeed no longer a part of the Mavin setup
but no assumptions should be made until we get an
official statement from both sides. Although, with
Don Jazzy keeping mute about Wande Coal’s new
single “Kilaju” which was released yesterday. Black
Diamond was left out in the cold as he had to do all
the online promotion himself with no support from
the entire Mavin Records camp including their online
PRs which is something unusual.
I guess every artist wants to be their own boss as
Wande Coal is the CEO of Black Diamond
Entertainment.
My question is was Wande Coal really a part of the
Mavin camp? He never mentioned them in any of his
singles since the introduction of the Dream Team of
the Nigerian Music Industry.
